Whipped cream chargers are single-use canisters. They are filled with a predetermined amount of nitrous oxide (N2O) gas at high pressure. The puncturing mechanism releases the gas when inserted into the dispenser, and the design does not allow for safe refilling.
Reusing a whipped cream charger can be hazardous. The puncturing mechanism is designed for single use and may not function or seal properly after only one use. If the canister is pressurized again, this may result in leaks, uncontrolled gas release, or even explosions.
Even if you successfully refill a charger, the internal pressure may not be consistent. This could result in uneven whipped cream or difficulty dispensing the cream entirely.
When you open a used charger to refill it, you risk contaminating the internal chamber. Foodborne bacteria and other contaminants may enter the canister, jeopardizing the safety of your whipped cream.
